The end to a great era on Cosby Fields!
For the past 10 years, the Cosby family has generously leased Cosby Fields to the Richmond Strikers which we have used for a number of practices. Unfortunately Mr. Cosby passed away in June of 06 placing the land in a trust. As is natural with situations like this, the trust has the responsibility to manage the land in the best interest of the trustees which may involve selling this prime piece of property. While no decisions regarding the outcome of this land have been made, it is clear that our future there is uncertain. In addition to this, Goochland County asked the Strikers to put in a turn lane in order for us to continue operating under our conditional use permit at this property. Given the cost of the turn lane, and the uncertain time frame of our tenure at Cosby, the Strikers have made a decision not to pursue this investment. Recently, in a Goochland county supervisors meeting a decision was made to allow the Strikers to continue to use Cosby until the end of our fall 07 season with a traffic officer instead of a turn lane. This solution gives the Strikers time to review our field needs and find a convenient alternative to Cosby for our recreation teams. While nothing is finalized at this point, we feel confident we will find a great solution to this situation.
