The Richmond Strikers Soccer Club is pleased to announce that David Burch will be joining the club as the Director of the Girls Travel Program. Burch, a Richmond native, comes to the Strikers from the New River United Soccer Association in Blacksburg, VA, where he acted as the Executive Director as well as Director of Coaching.
Burch’s twenty-two year career has been focused exclusively on coaching women’s soccer and his resume includes an impressive list of coaching positions both at the college, club and high-school level. Burch first started coaching girl’s soccer in Boulder, Colorado at Boulder High School while attending graduate school at the University of Colorado. After graduating, he moved to Missouri where he started the women’s soccer program at William Woods University in Fulton. After seven years at WWU, Burch moved back to Virginia where he spent six years as the head women’s coach at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland. Most recently, in addition to directing the New River soccer club, he also coached the girl’s soccer team at Blacksburg High School. Burch has also coached girls at the club level in Columbia, Mo, Richmond and Blacksburg.
During his career, Burch, who has his US Soccer ‘B’ license and a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, has coached All-Conference, All-Regional and All-American soccer players. He has been on collegiate national ranking committees and chairman of several women’s coaches committees. Most recently (2006) he was named district and regional coach of the year. Burch believes that these coaching experiences will allow him to guide Striker players and teams to higher levels.
In addition to his coaching experience, Burch also has a Masters Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in the psychology of sport and exercise. He feels that he has much to offer in this often neglected aspect of competitive soccer.
“By hiring someone with David’s credentials, we fully expect that within the next few years, we will be able to consistently elevate our entire Girl’s program to state, regional and perhaps national prominence. I am extremely excited to have David join our staff,” said Director of Coaching, Carlos Martinoli
“We are thrilled to have someone of David’s caliber join the Strikers and know he is going to accomplish great results with our girl’s program! David is very respected by the soccer community and comes to us highly recommended,” said Scott Turner, Executive Director of the Richmond Strikers Soccer Club.
David Burch will attend the May tryouts for the Strikers, and will begin full-time with the club beginning June 1, 2007.
